I'll just have to try and be a better landlord in the future.

Hi Susan,
Do your dogs go wild over the chipmunks too? I think mine are living under the deck but the hostas and ferns as so thick I can't tell for sure. I'll probably have sunflowers growing everywhere next year too!

Hi Windyridge,
Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. Because it was raining most of the day, all of the pictures (except for the hummingbirds) were taken through the dining room window. I was amazed they turned out as good as they did.
My camera is a Canon PowerShot S1 IS with a 10X Optical Zoom. I wish I knew more about taking better pictures. I've never seen raccoons in the backyard, but it may be time to invest in a live trap because I found a tree swallow nest destroyed this afternoon too.

Thanks Lisa....only 1 more day to go and then this quarter will be over. Tomorrow's going to be ugly, but having my weekend to look back on will help me get through the day.

I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures Herci. It's fun to have all this nature right outside my door (except when I have to experience the bad things).

Hi Mary C,
No evidence at all that I could see. But today I also found a nest full of tree swallow babies that had been pulled out of one of the gourd birdhouses. I saw the door of the gourd laying on the ground and when I went to look, the remains of swallow babies were there too. Only a raccoon would be strong enough to pull that door off. I'm going to have to take some preventative measures against raccoons (now that I definitely know they're in my backyard.)

Hi Jayne,
Enough rain to do some good? I'm sure you'll take every drop you can get.
The hummingbird feeder in the picture had been just about empty....I delayed the cleaning and refilling task for too long!

Hi Mom,
The bluebirds are sitting on the house in my front yard and also the house by Bradd's mailbox. I know he really wants this bluebird pair in his yard, but I'm going to try and keep them here! I'll have to be more vigilant for that raccoon if the bluebirds nest here in the yard again.

Hi Jan,
I'm glad you feel that way too. Maybe if I can keep them satisfied with peanuts they won't dig up my plants!

Hi Nina,
I've often wondered that same thing about hummingbird feeders. I actually have 4 feeders around the yard, but this one is on the deck and they all seem to like it best.
P.S. I like your new photo!RuthieJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11663411478574192825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4854762792778878452.post-70109185456631736482008-06-29T19:15:00.000-05:002008-06-29T19:15:00.000-05:00Gosh, Ruthie, your hummers are well-mannered!Just ...Gosh, Ruthie, your hummers are well-mannered!
Just this morning I was wondering to myself why they bother putting so many holes and perches around them, because none of my hummers allow another anywhere close to "their" feeder!nina at Nature Remains.https://www.blogger.com/profile/07888238636692649668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4854762792778878452.post-33245835053008899512008-06-29T18:36:00.000-05:002008-06-29T18:36:00.000-05:00I don't think I could begrudge a chipmunk anything...I don't think I could begrudge a chipmunk anything. Will Mom & Dad start a new nest some where else. Those hummingbirds are just itching to chase one off. Thanks for the other pics of birding life at the Johnson residence. I thought the same thing about this little possibly digging out your snapdragons. I know the squirrels tend to do that around here -- digging in potted plants (especially bulbs). That was interesting to see an oriole going for the mealworms, but I shouldn't be surprised since they are insect eaters. And it's nice to capture two female hummingbirds "sharing" the nectar. Anna's hummingbirds don't like to share, especially the males - they are very territorial.Mary Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08077077785157768787noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4854762792778878452.post-8951853441970252472008-06-29T08:51:00.000-05:002008-06-29T08:51:00.000-05:00Wonderful images Ruthie! you bring me closer to na...Wonderful images Ruthie! you bring me closer to nature, as usual--thanks for that!

How gorgeous and darling is that bluebird couple? so sweet.

Also, I'm sorry to hear about the babies :(

HerciHercihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00131064993992098335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4854762792778878452.post-5466441448387460242008-06-29T05:37:00.000-05:002008-06-29T05:37:00.000-05:00I can tell you enjoyed your rainy saturday Ruthie....I can tell you enjoyed your rainy saturday Ruthie.
