30 Chemo Caps in 30 Days -- Can She Do It?

I decided to keep a visual record of the progress on my 30-day chemo cap challenge. Every day I finish a cap, I'll post a picture, so you can track my progress (or lack of it!). I've found some more new patterns, so I'll have a good variety of styles. (I'm sure this is going to be way easier than a 30-day/30-pound weight loss challenge!!)

Day 17 - July 24, 2009
13 Hats to go

Day 16 - July 23, 2009
14 Hats to go

Day 15 - July 22, 2009
Halfway to the goal with this cap
#15 completed.

Day 14 - July 21, 2009
I got 2 hats done this day, so I'm caught up &
almost to the halfway point with hats 13 & 14!

Day 13 - July 20, 2009
18 Hats to go

Day 12 - July 19, 2009
I was unable to get a hat
done on Saturday, so now I'm
one behind (19 hats to go)

Day 10 - July 17, 2009
One-Third of my goal completed
and 20 more hats to go

Day 9 - July 16, 2009
21 to go!

Day 8 - July 15, 2009
22 to go!
I love this hat!! I'm going to make one for myself once I finish this 30-day challenge.

Day 7 - July 14, 2009
23 to go!
There's a little eyelet lace pattern in the middle band on this hat, but the tweedy textured yarn doesn't show it very well.

Day 6 - July 13, 2009
24 to go!
I decided to make a few hats in "guy" colors too. This camouflage colored yarn really blends in with the leafy background, doesn't it?

Day 5 - July 12, 2009
25 to go!

Day 4 - July 11, 2009
26 to go!
I hope the "bumpiness" of these stitches flattens out a little once it's been washed.

Day 3 - July 10, 2009
27 to go!
(I didn't have enough pink yarn for the entire cap, but fortunately, I found a small ball of the pastel variegated with some pink that matched perfectly--I really like the way this one turned out)

Day 2 - July 9, 2009
28 to go!

Day 1 - July 8, 2009
29 to go!

Looks like a basic stocking stitch--right?
Good for you.
And, oh yes--knitting is much easier than losing weight. Sigh.

Sure Ruthie you can do it, give up eating big meals, don't sleep, don't garden, don't mow the lawn, etc, etc. LOL.

Much easier and more appreciated by others :)

I believe you can do it. And that's a lovely cap.

I know you will Lynne--and you'll have fun doing it!

That's correct Donna, and on a circular needle. Knit, knit, knit--goes really fast!

Hi Mom,
I could give up the big meals, but somehow I don't think that would go over very well with the other half of the household! I'll just have to learn how to manage my time a little better for the next 30 days.....

Thanks Heidi!

Thanks Gaelyn. I heard from Kristen (my LYS owner) and she said two other women are in this challenge too. I can't wait to see how we all do.

Now, if you were trying to tell me that you were going to lose 30 pounds in 30 days I would laugh in your face, however I know you can do these caps in 30 days. You go girl... I am cheering for you.

Oh Lisa, you know me too well! ;-D

What a great idea. Eventually to Mayo, I assume. I remember the wonderful stocking caps my mom used to knit for me as a child. I know darn well that it took her more than a day though. One a day? You can do it!!!

Dear Ruthie - Do your knitting needles ever catch on fire?

Kelly said...

If anyone can do it, you can. You are talented!!

Go Ruthie, go Ruthie!!!! We know you can do it!

I think I like this last hat (the 3rd one) you finished the best. 'Course, they are all lovely.

That lady that you have modeling for you has GOT to get out in the sun more!

Hi Troutbirder,
I'll have to ask Kristen how she distributes these hats. I don't know if people just come in and she gives them away or if she goes thru Mayo or the American Cancer Society.

Hi Mama Pea,
No fires--but I am getting some hot spots on a couple of my fingers from all this extra knitting activity!

Thanks Kelly. I'm enjoying the chance to try out new patterns PLUS cleaning out my stash!

Thanks Jayne.

Thanks Mama Pea, I was pretty happy with it too--I'm amazed at what I'm finding in bags and boxes that I've collected over the years. I have some other variegateds and solids that will work together, so you'll probably see this pattern again!
(My hat model is named Larissa!)

Beautiful blue for that last one!

You are just amazing. I don't think it would be possible for me to turn out a hat a day and still make time for the "must dos." You must knit "European" style . . . don't throw your yarn, do you?

RuthieJ said...

Thanks Mama Pea. I had to redo the top decreases on that blue hat, so didn't get the picture taken until it was almost dark (as you can tell).
Actually I am a "thrower." I only pick with the second color when I'm doing two-colored knitting. In a knitting group I used to belong to, one of the women there said I was the fastest "thrower" she had ever seen.

@hastybrook and Ruthie J Maybe we should nix the birding on aug 15th and all sit around getting knitting lessons from Ruthie!
Something I have failed at in the past.
I think its awesome what u do Ruthie..you are a special gal..

Okay, Ruthie, fess up. You're not eating or sleeping, right? It would take me a week to finish the last one (intricate pattern) you just did.

I am in A-W-E of your dedication and determination.
