Another Miscellaneous Monday

There's a special event coming up and you're invited to attend if you can answer "yes" to these 3 simple questions: 1) Do you enjoy birds and nature? 2) Do you live within 150 miles of St. Paul, Minnesota? 3) Are you free next Saturday (August 15th)?

Even if you don't blog, tweet or chirp, you can be a part of the "Birders Who Blog, Tweet and Chirp" birding event in the Twin Cities. Check out all the details here at Lynne's blog. And I want to personally invite my blog readers from the area (Stephen, Kathy, Jess, Val, Danielle, Barefoot Gardener, Deb, Mike, Toniya, Richard, Marsha, Brother Dave, and Cindy from Waterville). Long-range weather predictions are forecasting a perfect day for being outside and I would sure enjoy the chance to meet any (or all!) of you in person. Hope to see you next Saturday!

Here are just a few pictures that I've taken in the last few days that you might bring a smile to your face.

Here's silly Penny taking a nap -- does that look comfortable to you??

There, that's better and definitely looks more comfortable.

I believe Mr. Bunny Rabbit thought he wouldn't be noticed there between the peas and carrots! Unfortunately for him, my vantage point from the second story deck busted him in a second.

This is one of the baby chickadees that hatched in my yard earlier this summer. They're so demanding!

And here's backyard bird #46 for 2009. I know all you city dwellers with an over-abundance of pigeons will think I'm nuts, but I was pretty excited to spot this guy on the roof the other night. I guess there are enough barns and silos in the area that pigeons are actually rare in my backyard.

Oh, and one more thing before I forget......I finally got some inventory back on the shelves of my Etsy shop, so be sure and click on the sidebar link right below my profile to see what's new! (thanks!)

Have a good week everyone!

Looks like fun! I'll try to get there for the morning event (no promises, though), but we've already got afternoon plans. :-(

Love the kitty and chickadee, but you're welcome to all of our pigeons. A couple of weeks ago we saw a hawk taking out a pigeon...I don't know my raptors well enough, but I posted some "mealtime" videos on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mahlu002/

Oh poor Penny, its so hard to find a comfortable position and then mom comes and takes pictures! Hobbs was sleeping on the sofa the other day and had his face mashed up against the side. I wondered if he could breath.
Wish I could join you on Saturday. Looking forward to reading about the day. Have fun and I wish you all great weather.
Oh and I love the pigeon. I think they're pretty birds.

i bet your penny likes to roll in yarn too! Daisy just loves it!

what do you recommend about cleaning a bird bath? I just try to spray most of the gook out once a week or so, but is that good enough? I figured anything like bleach would be a bad idea.

Changed your profile pic again?
Love the sleeping kitty.
Pigeons, a rarity? Oh my, you do live away from the city. My London based daughter calls pigeons rats with wings.

Sure wish I lived closer Ruthie! Hope you all have a very wonderful time!

Hi Dawn,
My kitty has the life I'd like -- nap, eat, nap, watch birds, nap..... well, you get the picture!
Hope you have a good trip. Looking forward to meeting you on Saturday. A word of warning: keep your homey doors locked once you get here--it's zucchini season!!

Hi Gaelyn,
Penny spends a good part of any sunny day in that window and there's more than enough space that she doesn't have to lay right by the flower pot, but she still does.

Thanks Lisa -- Penny makes me smile too.

Hi Danielle,
Hope you can make it Saturday morning!
Thanks for your link to flickr -- looks like a Cooper's Hawk & right in your front yard! very cool!

Hi Julie,
Sometimes Penny sleeps so sound I have to check and make sure she's breathing. I decided to move her from that uncomfortable position, but couldn't resist taking a picture first!

Aw Barefoot, I say "oh crud" too. Hopefully one of these days we'll get a chance to meet face-to-face!

Hi Dana,
Penny LOVES yarn. I have to be careful about where I leave it laying around.
I have a stiff cleaning brush for the birdbath for when the gunk gets too thick to spray out and that works really good. If I get some really stubborn stuff, I usually pour in some white vinegar and let it set for a while and that generally does the trick. If you need to actually "disinfect" the birdbath, you could use bleach. But you're right -- I hate bleach and don't even keep the stuff around anymore. Boiling water would disinfect too, but it sounds like you're doing the right thing with thorough weekly cleanings.

Hi Donna,
Yup, new picture -- I was messing around with the camera last week and decided this one wasn't too bad.
Talking about your daughter and the pigeons in London reminds me of "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins. I imagine flocks that size would be pretty annoying.

Hi Jayne,
I wish you did too! But I know one of these days we'll get the chance to meet in person and do some birding together.

Thanks Mary Lee. Every time I get one of those Snapfish e-mails I say to myself that I should get some photos together for a calendar, but how can I choose only 12 from the hundreds I have on file? :-/

Thanks Carolyn. Saturday should be fun -- watch for photos and stories!

Ok..so my door is open! hoping for zucchini ..should I be afraid? LOL

Hi Dawn,
only fear the zukes the size of baseball bats! I gave away 2 last week, so you're safe from me anyway......

Hey Ruthie! Wish I lived closer to be at the birding event. Don't kitties get into the wierdest positions?

Ruthie,
Thank you for the invitation. Sadly, I won't be able to attend. It would've been grand to meet and to partake in the days events.

I wish you did too Meggie!
Penny has a pretty good life at our house.

Hi Stephen,
I know it's a busy time of year for everyone, but thanks for letting me know.
