You Know You're From Minnesota.....

You Know You're From Minnesota When......

......Weather is 80% of your conversation
is it any wonder when we have weather like this?

......You keep snow tires on your truck all year because it ain't worth it taking them off for only 4 months!
and that's a darn good thing today!

This photo of my front yard was taken at 11 AM TODAY (October 12, 2009). I think I'll use it for my Christmas card this year!

......You have gone trick-or-treating in 3 feet of snow
only 3 more weeks till Halloween and I think it's gonna be one of those years!

......You laugh every time you hear about a blizzard shutting down the entire East Coast
I think this weather system is heading northeast and I promise not to laugh too hard

.......You know what "uff-da" means and how to use it properly
yup, that's exactly what I said when I looked at green leaves covered with snow: "uff-da!"

......You own an icehouse, a snowmobile and a 4-wheel drive vehicle
I don't even have to explain this one do I?

......You have ever worn shorts and a parka at the same time
I know if I went to the mall today, I'd see people in this attire

......You can name both of the seasons: Winter and Road Construction
Thank goodness, at least this means road construction season is finally over!!

......You actually "get" these jokes and pass them on to your other friends from Minnesota
and to all my friends not from Minnesota, hopefully this explains what makes us proud Minn-e-sodans!

Merry Christmas!

Oh my gosh....you made me laugh. Your video is priceless! Wowsers......I wonder if it's headed down here. Right now my windows are open, and I have a short-sleeved shirt on, but we've been Trick or Treating in the snow before, so who knows!!

Snow already. This just makes me realize how much farther north you are. You do have a pretty shot for your christmas cards.

I, too, got a big grin on my face while watching your video. Thanks for reminding us that we need to maintain a sense of humor in the face of all this craziness we call Minnesota weather.

Once again, you have the worst weather. We've had flurries since about noon but no build-up yet in NE Minnesota. Hubby talked with a gal in St. Paul early this morning and they had 3" with more falling at that time. Uff-da.

How beautiful!!

My hubby and I lived in south-central Oklahoma for a short time before we had kids and experienced a snowy Halloween. Now back in northeast Texas we range from 50s and rainy to 90s and steambath hot for the TrickserTreaters.

Can't recall ever seeing snow before Thanksgiving here, sleet definitely, but not snow. Enjoy it, I'm a teeny bit jealous!!

See you just got a dusting again. We totalled between 3-4 inches but almost all was gone by 4pm

So pretty, but YIKES! I remember those days. . . but I don't remember them coming quite so soon!!!!

If it makes you feel better, it's raining here. (But tomorrow will be 77 and sunny.)

Sorry...I couldn't resist.

Rain for us tonight and the next couple of days. Snow in the Sierra's. Can't say I miss the MN winters!

I am just sort of amazed by such early snow this year! October? Love the Minnesota truisms! :c)

Oh Kelly, I'm jealous! I'm hoping we'll still be able to open the windows a few more times and maybe get at least one more motorcycle ride before November!

Hi Lisa,
I think we're definitely having some solid zone 4 weather this year!

Hi Mama Pea,
The weather always gives us something to talk about, doesn't it? I watched the WCCO news at 5:00 and they got quite a bit more snow than we did, so I better stop my whining!

Thanks Molly. I truly do enjoy the change in seasons and don't think I could endure the hot weather you guys have down there.

Hi Richard,
I think you were in that heavier snowband that ran up through the Twin Cities and on into Wisconsin. But it never got warm enough here to melt everything and my backyard is still white this morning. Sure increases the bird activity at the backyard feeders, doesn't it?

Hi Mary Lee,
I don't remember this much snow so early either, but at least it's going to melt. I see the southeast is getting "drowned" with rain again, so I know you'll enjoy a sunny day once more (even if it is hot!)

Hi Phil,
This is your rainy season starting now, isn't it? I'll take snow over rain any day!

Hi Jayne,
There's a whole list of those Minnesota sayings, but I bet most of them would work for just about any other state (except for the ones pertaining to our "accent", youbetcha!)

Ha, ha... I like the one about the two seasons and agree with you on being happy when Road Construction season is over:)

I took the same kind of pictures this week in the Black Hills of SD! I too have Christmas card worthy photos. Never mind the old adage about "frost on the pumpkin", we've had fog, sleet, snow, freezing rain and frost on the proverbial pumpkin in the past few days, and they are now frozen to my front porch. :o)

Snow in October... that, my dear, is why I don't live in Minnesota (no offense)! Temps are cooling down here, but no snow forecasted in southeast Ohio... YET!

And Lynne wants me to come visit in effing February...y'all are a bunch of loonies.

:)

Merry Columbus Day.

OMG! I don't think I will complain about the rain anymore.

Hi Birdsong,
Sounds like you guys had some nasty weather early this week too. Hope all is now well at your place.

Hi Caroline,
I saw on the Nightly News that the Black Hills got around 6" of snow. I hope it's all melted now (as ours finally is).

No offense taken Heather! Minnesota weather is not easy to get used to!

Someday Susan.....we'll get you up here to experience a real Minnesota winter! You don't have to stay--just come and visit for a few days! The birds and friends will make it worthwhile for you.

Hi Meggie,
We're having some rainy days now too (with a few flakes mixed in), but really looking forward to the predicted sunny weekend!

Yikes Stripes Ruthie...you guys sure did get an early snow..looks quite lovely though..
Enjoyed your MN jokes.

Love the video! We haven't got our first snow yet. I might have jinxed it because I got the front yard ready before it had snowed. :)

Hi Dawn and Dave,
The snow is gone and we're back to our normal fall weather. We're actually going to have 3 sunny days in a row before more rain (no snow predicted!) moves in on Tuesday.

SNOW?!? I'm sorry I didn't read this earlier! I LOVE snow! It feels like it may come early to us down here too. Its been a really cool, cold even October.

I love the "you know when" stuff...especially about the two seasons.
