It's time!

I took the cage protector off my suet log a few weeks ago once the grackles left the yard and raccoons were no longer a problem. The woodpeckers loved having easy access to the entire log -- especially the bigger Hairy and Red-Bellied woodpeckers.

But look who I caught eyeing the suet log yesterday.......did you notice the top hole was completely empty?

Yupper!! And here's why! That big ol' crow beak can clean out a suet log in a quick hurry compared to a tiny little Downy woodpecker beak!

So right after I took these pictures, I went out and put the cage back over the suet log. I know the woodpeckers aren't happy, but at least it's not a crow feeder anymore!

I love crows but wouldn't want to feed them expensive suet dough.

Don't crows need to eat too? ;)

Amazing how quickly those crows can snarf down that tasty suet. I love them but agree with Lynn. Suet is a bit pricey to feed to the crows.

You will need a lot more suet if you are feeding these piggies.

Pigs with wings! (grin)
We have ravens, big ones. They love to go in the dog yard and get their bones when the dogs aren't looking. Watching them take off with them is just a hoot. Yep, they need to eat too, but it sure takes the sport out of it for the little ones.

Hi Dawn,
I usually put out some cheap dog food for my crows.....looks like I need to be a little more faithful about filling their tray now.

Me either Lynne -- even when I get the suet on sale at Fleet Farm!

Sure they do Gaelyn, but not my expensive suet! Now that it's gotten cooler, maybe I can find a nice deer carcass to put out in the yard for them!

I think there are only 3 or 4 crows in my yard NCMountainWoman, but they could probably get the word about a suet feast spread around pretty quickly!

No more suet for crows Eileen -- I need to defrost the freezer and should find some surprises for crows in there!

They really are Martie! They do check-up flyovers of the feeding trays several times a day. They are especially fond of those special little treats from the garage mousetraps!

Corvids are the smartest of all. I like watching them. To me they are natures comedians. :)

I like them too Dave. I wish we lived far north enough to see ravens.

Darn those sneaky pesky Crows! They do, however, perform some necessary clean-up. So, I suppose, we'll give them a minor reprieve.

You got that right Stephen. Unlike many people, I do like crows and encourage them to visit my yard. They have their own feeding tray -- far away from the suet! I just have to remember to keep their tray filled too.
