The other day Meggie tagged me to play "Christmas Hoopla." Here is how to play:
1. List 12 random things about yourself that have to do with Christmas.
2. Please refer to it as a 'hoopla' and not the dreaded 'm'-word. I suppose that refers to the 'M'eme list.
3. You have to specifically tag people when you're done. None of this "if you're reading this, consider yourself tagged" stuff is allowed...then nobody ends up actually doing it. The number of people you tag is really up to you -- but the more, the merrier to get this 'hoopla' circulating through the blogosphere.
4. Please try and do it as quickly as possible.

1. I love the Bing Crosby version of "White Christmas."
2. I hate that Christmas has become so commercialized.
3. I would love to take a week off before Christmas to stay home and enjoy getting all my Christmas stuff done: baking, cards, decorating, etc.
4. When we were little my Mom sewed matching Christmas outfits for me and my sister and I ended up ripping the tie on my blouse at the Christmas pageant at church--Mom was pretty mad.
5. For the past several years, I have always made a batch of homemade lefsa for Christmas dinner.
6. The worst Christmas gift my husband ever gave me was a shotgun.
7. The best Christmas gift my husband ever gave me was a pair of diamond stud earrings (I wear them every day)
8. I love eggnog (the stuff you buy in the dairy case at the grocery store).
9. I used to have real Christmas trees, but got tired to having to secure them because every cat I've ever had has insisted on climbing up them and tipping them over.

Can you see Penny in the tree? (And the 2 brown lines running out of the tree above and below Penny are the yarn I used to secure the tree to the railing so it doesn't tip over)
10. The biggest monetary Christmas bonus I ever received was $1000.11. I usually compose and print a Christmas letter every year (but haven't started a letter or even cards yet this year)
12. I actually like fruitcake.
I know everyone's busy right now, but I would like to "tag" Mary at "Mary's View" and Trixie at "Trixie's View" to play the Christmas Hoopla game. Come on, ladies, do you have time to play???

Ruthie, Penny in the tree is absolutely PRICELESS! My Mom and I have had cats that destroyed some trees - real and artificial.

Oh that naughty Penney in the tree. Do you remember what we did to keep the tree from falling over, nailed the tree stand to the floor, or the wire from the top of the tree to the eye bolt in the ceiling. What is it about cats and climbing the Christmas tree? We've had cats for so long we always try to outsmart them.
I liked your answers to the game and yes I remember the torn blouse and boy was I mad. We were going to Chicago and we were to have a family picture with Grandpa and Grandma Kroll. [The year was l966 and was shortly before Grandpa Kroll died]. I'm surprised you remember that, you were just a little kid.

Ruthiej, I love the picture of Penny in the tree. I had a cat for 18 years and she never bothered the tree itself. She would bat the ornaments on the lower branches when she was young but when she got older she would chose a christmas present and use it as her bed all through the holiday. I could never figure out why she would choose a package. Some years it was large sometimes smaller. I knew I would have to rewrap "her bed" when the time would come to give the gift to someone. What a fond memory you have evoked with the picture of Penny. Aaaaaaah.

I remember that event quite vividly actually--I'm sure the other kids were hiding in another room and laughing too! I remember you were able to fix it and the repair hardly showed because the jumper covered where the blouse was torn.

My kitty loved everything about the tree--tinsel (to eat--kinda freaked me out when cleaning the litterbox, if you know what I mean), ornaments to bat around, and water to drink from the basin. I guess when you're an indoor cat, any change in the routine is welcomed.

I will try to do a post on making lefsa. You must not have any Norwegian friends??? The best way to describe it for someone who doesn't know is that it's like a tortilla--only Norwegian style and made from potatoes.

I did this one today too. I just love the picture of the kitty in the tree. Vincent actually nibbles at the artificial tree. He's so big he could pull the whole thing down.

Hello RuthieJ - I'm a friend of Robin (who told me about your blog) and I completely enjoyed your piece on the garage door. I could almost have sworn you had taken a picture of my garage door! One of ours is permanently shut and the other goes on strike periodically. We just keep a hammer around to beat the offending wheel back into position. Have a great holiday,

Thanks for stopping by my blog (on Robin's recommendation). My posts aren't nearly as entertaining as Robin's, but the thing I like about blogging is that it allows us to find humor in what would otherwise be a really annoying situation (like Robin's visits to the health club).
A hammer and some "magic words" have worked wonders for me too!
