Final Weekend with John

Deere John,

I feel it's time once again for us to go our separate ways.
I've spent every weekend with you since last April and we've had a fun summer, but now you're starting to get on my nerves. You're loud and sometimes you smell bad.
I hope you enjoyed our last time out together yesterday. Now that you're cleaned up nicely and tucked away in the corner of the garage, I'll bid you adieu until next April.
Have a good winter.

XOXO,

RuthieJ (aka The Lawn Mowing Goddess)

Ha ha! My husband cut the lawn yesterday too, and that should be it. Doesn't John Deere do snow too? A little plow would fit nicely in front.

Even in MD and DE, we cut grass until November, up to Thanksgiving. We have a few more cuts to go here only because the weeds grow faster than dormant grass.

Here in CA, mowing the grass is a year round thing! Fortunately we don't have so much that we need a riding mower :)

When you have alpine meadow for a yard you need not the Deere John. Although, once in a while I wish for grass. Then I take the kids to a park. Let the municipality mow!

Hi Ruth,
John stays in the garage all winter. My little snowblower is a Toro, but the spousal unit usually gets to it first with a blade on the front of his ATV. A 'guy thing' I guess, having the power to just push all that snow across the road.

Hi Mary,
I had a good weed crop too during our dry spell, but then the rains and hot weather came back so the grass really grew again. I think this is the latest into October that I've ever had to cut grass.

Hi Susie,
I'm not sure I'd much enjoy mowing grass year round. It's always nice to have several weeks before the first big snow when I don't have to worry about any outside yard chores except filling the bird feeders.

Hi Trixie,
If I had my way, most of the yard would be in wildflowers and prairie grass. I actually stopped mowing one acre this year for the first time. It drove my husband nuts to have that grass growing so long, but since I'm the groundskeeper, I'm in control!

Ruthie! Are you sure you didn't banish your friend a little too early? Here in Ohio, the dang grass is still growing.

Hope your Mom is making good progress. It's so amazing what they can do to the human body now-a-days.

Hi Jayne,
I know I'll be much happier to see John again in the spring. We had a good summer riding around watching birds, flowers and butterflies, but all the pretty things are gone now and it's not much fun riding around anymore.

Hi Cathy,
According to my nature diary, the latest I've ever mowed the lawn was Oct. 18th, so I hope it's not too early. Our temps have cooled down and there's not much sun predicted for anytime this week, so I don't think the grass is going to grow much more.

My mom went home today and she told us yesterday that even with the surgery pain, her knee is still less painful than before she had the surgery (and she has about 20 staples in the incision right down the front of her knee-Ouch!!) I'm glad the surgery went well. I hope your Mom is feeling a little better today too.
